Do you need to open the Command Line, Command Prompt, MS-DOS Prompt, or Terminal on your Windows based computer? There are a few ways to do this, depending upon the version of Windows you have installed.
TL;DR – Windows Key + R > Type “CMD” and Press Enter
Windows 9x/2000/ME/XP
- Start > Programs > Accessories > MS-DOS Prompt or Command Prompt
- Start > Run… Then Type “command” or “cmd” and hit enter or click “OK”
- Windows Key + R > Type “command” or “cmd” and hit enter or click “OK”
Windows Vista/7/8
- Start > Programs > Accessories > [Windows Systems] > Command Prompt
- Start > Run… Then Type “cmd” and hit enter or click “OK”
- Windows Key + R > Type “command” or “cmd” and hit enter or click “OK”
- To open the Command Prompt in particular Folder:
- If you have the fold Open in the Windows Explorer (Read: You are looking in the folder).
- Press and hold “Shift” while right click in the white space in the folder (do not select a file or folder).
- Click “Open Command Window Here”, usually under “Paste”
