During Installation
- Enable – Potentially Unwanted Programs (PuP) and ESET LiveGrid feedback System
Advanced Setup/Settings
Once ESET is installed, a few advanced settings should be reviewed and adjusted:
Note: Feel free to adjust these recommended settings as you see desired. If you want to reset to Default Setting, use the button in bottom left corner of Advance Setup Window.
- Start by opening ESET Window (either via Start/Windows menu or system tray/notification center – clock area).
- With the ESET Window active, Hit “F5” Key on the keyboard or Click “Setup” → “Advanced setup”
- Under Protections on the Left Sidebar – Under the Detection response section – Set Potentially unsafe applications to Balanced (You may need to Scroll down to see this option)
- While still under Protections section, in the section SSL/TLS, disable – Enable SSL/TLS (This will prevents Security Prompts and prevents ESET from MitM your ‘Secure’ Traffic).
- From the left sidebar, select “Cloud-Based Protection” and confirm ESET Live Grid is Enabled
- While still under Cloud-Based Protection expand ESET LiveGuard section, change Automatic submission of suspicious samples change Delete documents from ESET’s servers to “Immediately after analysis“.
- From the left sidebar select Network access Protection and under the section Network Inspector, change to disabled.
- Select Browser Protection from the sidebar. Disable – Safe Banking & Browser (Optional Change)
- Select Device Control from the sidebar, under the section Webcam protection change all settings to disable.
- Select Privacy settings from the sidebar. Disable – Customer Experience Improvement Program (Optional Change).
- Click/Tap OK at the bottom of the Advanced Setup Window. When the User Account Control (UAC) prompt appears, allow (Yes) to allow the System Changes.
- You most likely will need to restart the computer – Start/Windows Button → Power Icon ⏻ → click/tap Restart.
- After the computer restart, verify you still have Internet connectivity by visiting a uncommon website, such as: (Pick one or two to try)
- irs.gov – US Internal Revenue Service
- illinois.gov – State of Illinois Government
- utah.gov – State of Utah Government
- blog.google – Google Company Blog
- Assuming you’re able to load a webpage without any problems, you should be good to go.
If you have problems, go the the next section – Reset ESET Settings to Default.
Reset ESET Settings to Default
To reset ESET Smart Security’s Settings to default settings follow the below steps:
- Start by opening ESET Window (either via Start/Windows menu or system tray/notification center – clock area).
- With the ESET Window active, Hit “F5” Key on the keyboard or Click “Setup” → “Advanced setup”
- Click/tap Default button in the bottom left corner of the Window – Allow Reset.
- Click/Tap OK at the bottom of the Advanced Setup Window. When the User Account Control (UAC) prompt appears, allow (Yes) to allow the System Changes.
- You most likely will need to restart the computer – Start/Windows Button → Power Icon ⏻ → click/tap Restart.
